Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us (Hebrews 12:1, NLT)
I’ll never forget Super Bowl LII. The first reason I’ll never forget it is because my favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles, won. The second reason I won’t forget get it is because of the unexpected fan support the Eagles received. People, whose loyalties lie with other teams, dislike the New England Patriots so much that they cheered for the Eagles!
Life, in so many ways, is a Super Bowl, and we have some unexpected support. Hebrews 12:1 calls them “a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith.” They are the heroes and heroines from Hebrews 11; they confronted and conquered situations we’re currently facing. They’re unseen to the natural eye, yet they’re cheering us on.
If you feel like you’re in a fight, know that you have an invisible fan club cheering you on. They believe you can take. They believe you can make it. They believe better is coming your way because God is on your side! They’re cheering for you, and they believe your story will end victoriously, just like theirs.
