Follow My Voice

They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice (John 10:5, NLT).

I love when life teaches me lessons I wasn’t expecting.  Just the other day, it happened again.  I was walking through my house, and my daughter was crawling behind me.  When I got out of her sight, she started crying.  To calm her down, I kept saying, “Just follow my voice.”

As soon as I said that, God tapped me on the shoulder.  What I said to my daughter is His desire for His children.  He wants us to follow His voice.

There are a lot of “voices” we can follow, and they all lead to different destinies.  News reports advise us to panic.  The economy makes us cautious.  Jobs make us feel inadequate and devalued.  The enemy wants us to believe we’ll never be anything.

With all of these voices lobbying for our attention, it’s important to lock in to the right one.  In a parable where Jesus compares Himself to a shepherd, He said His sheep (people) follow Him “because they know His voice.  They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice” (John 10:4-5, NLT).

When those other voices chime in and make your way seem dreary, ignore them.  Follow Jesus’ voice.  If you follow Him, you’ll surely have an incredible destiny.  Jesus said it like this, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life” ( John 10:10, NLT).  Follow His voice, and you’ll conquer the moments in your life that make you feel like crying!
