Check Yourself

If you haven’t heard, February is National Self-Check Month.  It’s a month set aside to encourage people to proactively prioritize their health.  Many chronic illnesses can be avoided by a simple preventative measure like a self-examination.

If checking yourself has a great impact on your physical health, how much more valuable is it for your spiritual well-being?  I’ll tell you.  Checking yourself is vitally important, especially if you’ve fallen into the habit of checking everyone else.  If you can find fault in others, and see nothing wrong with your spiritual “chart,” something is wrong.  More importantly, you’re setting yourself up to be checked by the good doctor, Jesus.  Notice His words: “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.  For you will be treated as you treat others.  The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.  And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?” (Matthew 7:1-3, NLT)

Our current culture is bent on exposing the flaws of others, but I’m writing to inspire a different approach.  Instead of looking for fault in others, check yourself.  If everyone spends more time worrying about themselves, we’d have fewer issues to point out
