THE REAL RESPONSIBLE PARTY

About three years ago, I got the call to go all in with God … again.  I say again because the first opportunity happened about fifteen years before that.  It’s hard to believe, but the same barriers that kept me from saying yes then were the same ones in play the second time around.

To be honest, it was much easier to treat what God wanted me to do like a side hustle.  I mean, I had a great job with comprehensive benefits.  I could do what I wanted, when I wanted to, and I didn’t need assistance from anyone else.  That is, until I had the wake-up call of a lifetime about three years ago:

“You don’t trust Me.”

That short sentence from God led to the most amazing pivot I’ve made.  But, that’s not the focus of this blog post.  This one focuses on the reason God said that to me.  Ready for it?

I didn’t trust Him.

It’s not a deep answer, but it certainly disclosed a part of God I didn’t know intimately.  My hesitant response to His invitation to go all in was the proof.  I didn’t trust Him because I didn’t know He was the responsible party.  All this time, I thought I was the breadwinner, so to speak, but He shattered that faulty belief system by inviting me to go all in on His plan for my life.

Here’s the verse He illustrated for an entire year:

This verse contains two important reasons why God is the real responsible party when He invites you to go all in:

  1. His Abundance: When you really break it down, you and I don’t have enough to feed, guide, and shield ourselves, all at the same time.  Case in point.  Try eating while driving in rush-hour traffic.  Even if you own a Tesla, it’s impossible.  But what’s impossible for us is simple for God, and His abundance – His more than enough nature and resources – make taking care of us a breeze.
  2. His Awareness: As smart as you and I are, we don’t know a lot.  Here’s proof.  Predict what’s going to happen to you at 3 pm tomorrow.  We can’t do it, but God can.   This level of awareness, that also includes knowledge of how many hairs are on your head and everything you need to complete what He’s assigned, qualifies Him to care for you responsibly.

I shared all that to say this: God is the real responsible party.  Over a three year period, He proved it to me over and over again.  This revelation alone makes it easier to go all in when He invites me.  As you read this, I hope it will do the same for you.

If you feel drawn to go all in with God, rest assured: you’re not the responsible party.  If He requires you to leave something, like a lucrative employment opportunity, to follow Him, know that He’s also covered everything you’ll need along the way.  He’s your provider and maybe this offer to go all in is His invitation to prove it to you.

I’m out of time but certainly not out of things to talk about.  If this part of an ongoing conversation blessed you, check out the first part here: [SHIFT Podcast: Go All In].

I’d also love to hear your thoughts.  Let’s talk about how God has shown you He’s the real responsible party in the comments.

I’ll catch you on the next post.  Have an incredible day!
