INTENTIONALITY

In the last episode of our podcast, I gave this update:

2024 is our year to multiply!

It’s our appointed time to be active members of God’s multiplication team.  In partnership with the Holy Spirit, we can usher people into relationship with God, who will usher people into relationship with God.

This invitation is also an opportunity to live differently.  It’s a chance to engage thoughtfully.  It’s a call to intentionality.

And what does that mean?  Let’s see if Lord Jesus, who lived more intentionally than anyone in the past, present, or future, can steer us toward the answer.  Notice this passage:

In Samaria he came to a town named Sychar, which was not far from the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired out by the trip, sat down by the well. It was about noon. A Samaritan woman came to draw some water, and Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink of water.” (His disciples had gone into town to buy food.) The woman answered, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan—so how can you ask me for a drink?” (Jews will not use the same cups and bowls that Samaritans use.) Jesus answered, “If you only knew what God gives and who it is that is asking you for a drink, you would ask him, and he would give you life-giving water” (John‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬-‭10‬, ‭GNT‬).‬

There’s so much worth extracting from this passage, but time will not allow us to capture everything.  The main thing to observe, however, is how Lord Jesus approached the interaction with the lady, from Samaria, who came to the well close to where He was seated.  Here’s what He did:

Lord Jesus intentionally invited the woman to know more about Him.

That’s our opportunity as well.  We can intentionally invite people to know more about Lord Jesus through our interactions.

If you’re up for the challenge, here are some pattern pieces to guide you:

  1. Moments: The opportunities for engagement are bountiful.  For Lord Jesus, it started with being present in the present moment.  Instead of ignoring the woman from Samaria, because He was tired or waiting for His disciples to return, He locked into the moment.  He focused His attention on the opportunity right in front of Him.
  1. Maximize: Rather than stare at the woman and contemplate all He could say, Lord Jesus thoughtfully engaged her in conversation.  In other words, He maximized the moment.  He pursued the opportunity instead of letting it slip by.  If you keep reading the rest of John 4, you’ll see that He indeed maximized the moment.  The woman from Samaria, and her entire community, believed on Him that very day.

Friends, this is our path forward.  We must be intentional and maximize the moments we have with people.  Thoughtfully engage them like Lord Jesus, and intentionally invite them to know more about Lord Jesus through your interactions.

That’s how you can be an all-star on God’s multiplication team.  If you need assistance working on your engagement or intentional invitation, I’d love to keep this conversation going.  Reach out to me at info@induranceministries.com, and let’s talk about your opportunity to play an active role in harvesting souls for the Kingdom of Heaven.
