Our latest podcast episode focused on belief systems. Whether you realize it or not, everything you do is an outcome of your belief systems.
That includes how you operate in 2025. Every decision you make will hinge upon what you believe. You have two overarching belief systems that will maneuver for dominance this year:
- Your past is the best predictor of your future.
- Your potential is the best predictor of your future.
I’m encouraging you to believe in your potential. Trust that you’re able to be and do more than you ever imagined this year.
I’m inviting you to be like Peter in the passage included below:
Between three and six o’clock in the morning Jesus came to the disciples, walking on the water. When they saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost!” they said, and screamed with fear. Jesus spoke to them at once. “Courage!” he said. “It is I. Don’t be afraid!” Then Peter spoke up. “Lord, if it is really you, order me to come out on the water to you.” “Come!” answered Jesus. So Peter got out of the boat and started walking on the water to Jesus (Matthew 14:25-29, GNT)
The same belief systems were at work for Peter in this passage. He could trust his past and stay in the boat because he had never walked on water. On the other hand, he could step out of the boat and into his potential of walking on water like Lord Jesus.
Peter believed in his potential and walked on water. Not a bridge that overlooked the water. Not a pier. He walked on top of water. This feat is the equivalent of stepping into your potential.
How can you believe in your potential over your past? Here’s the process:
- Recognize. You must realize that just because something hasn’t been done doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Though Peter never walked on water before, Lord Jesus showed him that it wasn’t impossible. And that was all Peter needed to recognize that he could, too!
- Respond. Recognizing that something is within your realm of possibilities is one thing, but moving on it is an entirely different conversation. That’s where Peter is invaluable again. He didn’t just imagine the possibility of walking on water, he responded to Lord Jesus’ invitation, stepped out of the boat, stepped onto the water, and walked out what he envisioned.
Friends, these are your keys to move forward. Believe in your potential. Walk on your proverbial water by realizing what’s possible and responding with activity that aligns with what you believe. Here are some questions to help you progress into your potential:
- What’s something you have the potential to do, even though you’ve never done it?
- What practical steps can you take to move towards your potential?
